WELCOME TO THE
SCIENCE FACULTY
WEBSITE
Science at Carrick Academy is a
very popular group of subjects.
In first and second year you will study general science which will cover all the basic knowledge you will need to make your choices for third year.
In third year you then study from one to three of the individual specialist sciences –
BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY and PHYSICS.
The science faculty is very well equipped with facilities to enhance your time there, be it a little time or a lot!
We have two chemistry laboratories, one physics laboratory and three biology laboratories. the six labs are around the perimeter of the department. This allows us to have a large extra lab area situated in the middle of the faculty which we call 'the open area'.
The open area is split into two distinct areas called 'THE LAB' and 'THE 'IT' SUITE'.
The lab area is a spacious area ideal for class experiments and demonstrations.
The IT suite has over 20 computers and an interactive whiteboard so lessons can be carried on outwith the typical classroom setting.
The whole of the open area acts as an extension of the science department, its greenhouses and garden so is well stocked with numerous plants and exhibits.
It is also home to our fish tank with around a dozen mature common and oranda goldfish.
Occassionally, weather permitting, lessons can take place outside in the garden where there are benches and tables.
